JMA's Logo.The Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA) is responsible for contributing to the improvement of public welfare including natural disaster prevention and mitigation, safety of transportation, prosperity of industries, monitoring of climate change and international cooperation activities.

Along with the responsibilities of JMA, the Meteorological Satellite Center (MSC) is responsible to observe meteorological and the related phenomena from space by meteorological satellites, to process the observational data and to disseminate the data and products resulted from the observations.

The major activities of MSC are as follows:

  • to operate the meteorological payload of the Multi-Functional Transport Satellite-1R (MTSAT-1R),
  • to observe cloud Image by MTSAT-1R,
  • to disseminate cloud pictures via MTSAT-1R,
  • to receive and to distribute meteorological reports transmitted from Data Collection Platforms (DCP),
  • to extract meteorological parameters, and,
  • to receive and process the data of polar orbiting satellites.
